P&G CLOSING FOUR MANUFACTURING FACILITIES in Baltimore, MD, Quinch, MA, San Francisco, CA and Pointe Claire, Quebec over the next 18 months. Procter & Gamble also will shut down certain production lines at another six plants. The 10 factories are among the first to be targeted under a major restructuring plan announced July 15 ("The Rose Sheet" July 19, p. 5) and include the first health and beauty care facilities to be impacted. The restructuring program, which calls for the elimination of 13,000 positions and about 30 manufacturing plants, is expected to generate savings of $500 mil. after taxes by fiscal 1996.
