Rhode Island proposed VOC limits

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

Consumer products limits set maximum volatile organic compound (VOC) percent by weight levels at 80% for hairsprays, 16% for hair mousses and 6% for hair styling products by July 1, 1995, according to a recently released proposed rule. Nail polish removers may contain no more than 95% VOCs, and aerosol anti- perspirants/deodorants are limited to 10% medium volatility organic compounds and may not contain high volatility organic compounds. Non-aerosol antiperspirants/deodorants may not include any VOCs. Rhode Island's Division of Air Resources currently is reviewing comments on the proposed rule and probably will make changes to the rule, including possibly pushing back the effective date, the division says
