Executive Summary
Amway meets with the Consumer Product Safety Commission July 12 to ask for more time to comply with child-resistant packaging regs for mouthwash expected to be finalized in May 1995 ("The Rose Sheet" May 16, In Brief). Amway claims the product's unique manufacturing, delivery and distribution system makes repackaging or reformulation "more of a job" than for other companies. Amway says CRPs for its Glister concentrated pump-spray mouthwash (24% alcohol) were tested on 50 four-year-olds, 48 of which were able to extract the product from its packaging; 19 of the 48 extracted three or more grams of alcohol, an amount deemed hazardous under the regs. Amway is expected to submit comments to CPSC before July 25, when CPSC is expected to complete a final briefing package that will be submitted to CPSC commissioners for consideration
