Executive Summary
Oregon's Consumer Products-Architectural and Industrial Maintenance Coatings Advisory Committee plans to issue recommendations by December for state regulations of volatile organic compound emissions in the Portland area. The committee had its second meeting on the issue Sept. 1, during which it discussed subjects including current Portland area VOC emissions, product control options and regulatory structure options. The group's third meeting is scheduled for Oct. 4 and its fourth meeting, originally scheduled for Nov. 7, will be held on Nov. 14. Oregon currently is waiting to be classified as a VOC "attainment" area. To be so designated, the state must submit a 10-year plan to EPA demonstrating how it will sustain attainment levels in the face of anticipated population growth and the resultant increase in VOC emissions ("The Rose Sheet" Aug. 8, p. 8)
