Executive Summary
HELENE CURTIS FY 1996 SECOND QUARTER U.S. SALES UP 1% while domestic sales for the half increased "over 2%," the company said. Helene Curtis attributed the modest gains for the quarter (ended Aug. 31) to a 20% increase in the U.S. antiperspirant/deodorant business -- helped by "double-digit" sales growth for Degree -- and a 15% jump in skin care sales. Consolidated sales for the quarter remained flat at $352.2 mil. compared to $352.5 mil. a year ago, the company announced Sept. 26. Net sales for the half also were relatively unchanged at $623.1 mil. compared to $618.2 mil. the year before.
