Executive Summary
TOPICAL VITAMIN C SHOWS BROAD-SPECTRUM PHOTOPROTECTIVE BENEFIT in in vivo studies, Sheldon Pinnell, MD, head of the dermatology department at Duke University Medical Center, reported at a Nov. 8 media briefing sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology in New York City. Topical vitamin C is not a sunscreen, Pinnell noted. He explained that vitamin C "add[s] to the body's own ability to neutralize chemical reactions" through its antioxidant effect.
