Executive Summary
AVOBENZONE-CONTAINING "BROAD SPECTRUM" SUNSCREENS NEED UVA/UVB TESTING prior to marketing, FDA stated in a Sept. 16 proposed rule amending the sunscreen tentative final monograph. The proposal would allow the marketing of "broad spectrum" sunscreen products containing avobenzone alone and in combination with some Category I sunscreen ingredients as long as the products are first tested for their protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
