Australian sunscreen regs: CTFA "discourages adoption of a policy regarding minimum or maximum effective levels" of sunscreen ingredients used in Australian sunscreen products, according to a letter sent to the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Australia. CTFA's comments, which will be forwarded to the Australian regulatory agency Therapeutic Goods Administration, maintain that "the SPF value is the true measure of sun protection, not the total concentration of active ingredients." TGA recently issued a proposal that establishes a list of permitted actives and sets maximum use levels for preparations sold in the country. CTFA supports TGA's proposal to establish upper limits of concentration based on safety, noting that the level should be decided using safety review or in-use data, "whether that level is supported by" the EU or U.S. Also in the letter, CTFA recommends that TGA "adopt the broadest" ingredient list possible, incorporating actives used in other countries and regions including the U.S., Europe and Japan...
