This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

COSMETICS/OTC NATIONAL UNIFORMITY AMENDMENT PASSES SENATE LABOR CMTE. by a 15-3 vote during a June 18 markup of Labor Committee Chairman James Jeffords' (R-Vt.) FDA reform bill (S 830). Although it passed with bipartisan support, the national uniformity provision met with some opposition from committee members. Introduced by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), the measure would pre-empt state and local safety and labeling laws that differ from existing federal regulations.
