Sebastian dedicating $1.5 mil. to anti-diversion effort.

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

SEBASTIAN ANTI-DIVERSION LABELING SYSTEM TRACKS UNAUTHORIZED SALES of Sebastian professional brand hair care and cosmetics products to non-salon distributors, the Woodland Hills, Calif.-based company said. In its most recent effort to combat the diversion of Sebastian items to drug stores, mass merchandisers and supermarkets, the company will attach a tamper-resistant tracking label to all of its product packaging. Each holographic, three-dimensional label will be numbered sequentially with visible digits and a bar code. The labels, in conjunction with a scanner used by the salons receiving product, will allow the company to follow the distribution path of each product "to the source of the diversion," Sebastian said.
