BMS' Clairol Herbal Essences sales more than double to $351 mil. for 1997.

CLAIROL HYDRIENCE HAIR COLOR SALES INCREASE 86% TO $79 MIL. for 1997, Bristol-Myers Squibb announced Jan. 22. The company's water-based hair color technology has been a very strong product for Clairol since its introduction in 1996. Across the board, Clairol saw strong growth within its hair color business. Sales from Natural Instincts grew 4% to $83 mil., and Nice 'N Easy had a 1% revenue increase to $190 mil. For the fourth quarter, hair coloring sales decreased 2.1% to $189 mil. from $193 mil. in the same period a year ago.
