Executive Summary
P&G MAX FACTOR, COVER GIRL NORTH AMERICA VOLUME UP 10% combined in the second fiscal 1998 quarter (ended Dec. 31) on a total cosmetics volume increase of 21%, Procter & Gamble Assistant Treasurer Jim Prevost told securities analysts during a Jan. 27 conference call. The Max Factor and Cover Girl volume growth excludes an increase resulting from a forward-buy strategy in December when many retailers purchased large quantities of the cosmetics brands in anticipation of increased prices in P&G's fiscal third quarter, the company said. The beauty care segment, which includes cosmetics, hair care, skin care, personal cleansing and antiperspirants/deodorants, registered a 2% volume growth during the period.
