Sunscreen SPF caps should be abolished in light of scientific advances -- CTFA.

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

SUNSCREEN SPF CAP: CTFA URGES REMOVAL OF LIMITS in light of the changing environment within the medical field. In April 15 comments to FDA on the sunscreen tentative final monograph, the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association re-emphasizes its position from 1994 comments recommending the abolition of any upper limit cap on the sun protection factor. Such a limit would "ensure that products that provide greater protection [would] be prevented from being marketed," CTFA says. Increased protection is "especially important" to photosensitive consumers, who represent over 10% of the general population, CTFA notes.
