Plans to meet in early June to develop a priority list of activities as the office undergoes severe budget cuts, FDA said. The agency announced the reallocation of cosmetics resources to the Food Safety Initiative and reduced the cosmetics program staff to nearly half of its FY 1997 level ("The Rose Sheet" April 6, p. 1). The priority list will be approved by the Commissioner's office and published in an upcoming issue of the Federal Register. The agency is also exploring co-op research agreements with outside institutions to reassign lower priority program efforts, such as for nitrosamine and dioxane studies, FDA said. One possibility may be to re-establish relations with the University of Cincinnati.
