Executive Summary
Federal Trade Commission revises Environmental Marketing Guides, or "green guides," to expand the definition of "recyclable" and "recycled content" to be more closely aligned with consumer perceptions. Both terms now include the reuse, reconditioning and remanufacturing of products or parts of another product, in addition to materials reused in the form of raw materials. FTC addressed the "recycled content" term in 1996 when it clarified that such a claim must distinguish whether a product is recyclable or contains recycled content. The revised guidelines will be published in an upcoming Federal Register notice
