Executive Summary
William Carlton, PhD, Purdue University Veterinary Pathology and Toxicology Department, will retire from the Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel in December. Carlton has served on CIR since 1982. The panel is requesting nominations for a qualified successor with both a scientific and technical background who can meet the same conflict of interest requirements as a special government employee. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 30, at which time the CIR steering committee will begin a candidate review. CIR recently opted to implement a rotation process under which panel members are eligible to serve two six-year terms ("The Rose Sheet" Jan 18, p. 4). At least one panel member is expected to retire each year until the system is in place
