Executive Summary
Blade and razor manufacturing realignment in Europe and Russia intended to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency and customer service. Initiative, in line with efforts to concentrate blade and razor manufacturing production in its Boston and Berlin facilities, will begin this month and finish in 2007, Gillette reports Dec. 11. Effort will include shuttering two UK facilities: a manufacturing center in Isleworth will close in 2007 and a packaging and distribution operation in Hemel Hempstead will close in 2005, firm says. Operations will be shifted to new facility in Eastern Europe. In addition, production of Gillette Sensor razors will be shifted from Berlin to the new center, while production of stainless steel double-edge and some disposable razor manufacturing will be moved from its operations in the Czech Republic to a facility in St. Petersburg, Russia.
