There has been "good progress toward the establishment of one regulatory scheme for cosmetics" by Jan. 1, 2008, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations reports in a media statement following the twentieth meeting of the ASEAN Council in Kuala Lumpur Aug. 21. The association, which comprises member countries Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Lao PDR, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, developed a cosmetics working group that created a draft harmonization initiative incorporating the EU definition for cosmetics ("The Rose Sheet" April 24, 2000, p. 6).
