Executive Summary
The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials will hold a symposium "to provide information on [its] current understanding of the mechanics of skin absorption and present the experimental methods available to assess percutaneous penetration." Symposium will take place Nov. 13 at the American College of Toxicology's annual meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. The absorption of compounds through the skin - whether incidental or by design - may be associated with toxicological hazards, RIFM notes, stressing that exposure quantification and risk assessment are needed to protect human health. Attendees of the symposium also will gain insight into the latest developments in mathematical/physiological dermal absorption modeling and take away a comparative analysis of available assessment methods using fragrance ingredients as an example.
