Founder of Japanese-inspired beauty brand Shu Uemura has died at the age of 79, parent company L'Oreal reports Jan. 8. After beginning his career in beauty in 1955 as a Hollywood makeup artist, Shu Uemura catapulted to fame by creating intricate geisha makeup for Shirley MacLaine for the film My Geisha.
