Executive Summary
Specialty chemicals supplier launches EcoTain label, pitched as eco-friendly, economical and sustainable formulation options for manufacturers faced with high consumer demand. Ecotain products are naturally derived from renewable resources and free of alkylphenol ethoxylates and ethylene oxide, says Clariant; furthermore, their processing uses less raw material and consumes less energy "reducing their emission potential and overall environmental impact." The line features Hostacerin SFO, an Ecocert-certified organic sunflower oil emulsifier "for revitalizing soft under-eye cream, day cream, smoothing soft cream and sunscreen cream"; Hostacerin EWO for night creams and other "rich formulations"; and its Hostapon, Medialan and Genagen blends for shampoos, shower gels and facial cleansers. Clariant says EcoTain products are economically attractive to manufacturers due to "less waste generation and greater recycling, more efficient processes and lower production costs." Supplier expands China operations: Separately, Clariant announces opening of a surfactants production facility in Eastern China. Move is part of a $100 mil. investment the company has made in China over the last 18 months, according to Sept. 17 release. "This new facility will enable us to meet the needs of the growing Chinese and wider Asian markets, which have remained strong despite the global economic downturn," firm says. Already Clariant has more than 1,300 employees at its labs, production facilities and offices across Greater China. Its personal-care business in the country has grown by double digits in recent years, the firm notes
