Executive Summary
Company's FloraGLO supplements contain lutein, not lutein esters as reported by "The Tan Sheet" in the Feb. 21 issue, In Brief. Under the terms of a July 1999 settlement with Henkel, Kemin may refer to its product as "purified" or "concentrated" lutein, while Henkel may use terms such as "lutein esters" or "marigold lutein" to identify its Xangold product (1"The Tan Sheet" Aug. 23, 1999, p. 14). Both Kemin and Roche Vitamins contribute in supplying lutein for Whitehall-Robins Healthcare's Centrum and Centrum Silver multivitamins. Kemin provides the raw material (FloraGLO lutein) to Roche, which in turn applies its beadlet technology to produce the lutein ingredient used by Whitehall. The antioxidant, said to help maintain healthy eyes, soon may be a required supplemental nutrient for all members of "The Tan Sheet" editorial staff
